This portfolio is brought to you in digital format, though the real fine art prints or photographs were created using traditional film. The images on these pages were scanned using an Epson Professional Scanner for digital representation on this site.
My photographic journey started in 1967 when I was given my first 35mm camera, an Argus C3 that I still have for sentimental reasons. Today my favorite camera, and the one I use the most, is the Mamiya RB67. I prefer medium format for most of my work as it allows for larger reproduction with minimal grain and distortion. I also use a Nikon N008s that I've had for years. I favor manual cameras to automatic as I believe no computer chip will ever replace the combination of the human eye and brain. I can't remember the last time I used the Nikon on auto. I use a hand held light meter for most lighting situations but over the years I've developed an 'eye' for light and sometimes use my experience over the light meter for special lighting challenges.
Shortly after receiving my first 35mm camera I built my first darkroom. I still process all my film and prints, both color and black and white, by hand. I enjoy not only the control over the process but also the satisfaction of creating a work of art from start to finish. From time to time I use an Epson Professional Digital printer for special situations but the vast majority of my prints are traditional silver halide produced by hand in my darkroom. Each fine art print is made with a degree of dodging and burning so no two photographs ever come out exactly the same giving individuality to each limited edition print.
